Original Title: Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat
MOVIE
So I was supposed to be asleep but decided to watch this movie my sister recommended called Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. Ngl, she has a wierd taste in movies - like she's obsessed with musicals and all - but this one was, honestly, kinda good. I mean it was supposed to be a love story but it was a musical - a musical love story, you know? & the love was not like traditional romantic love - it was dark, obsessive, & heartbreaking - like if Phantom of the Opera & Romeo and Juliet had a baby & that baby grew up listening to sad Hindi songs on loop.
The plot was really intense - like there was this guy who was madly in love with this girl but she didn't love him back - atleast not initially. He was like all over her - always there for her, writing songs for her - like real stalker vibes tbh. It was kinda creepy but also kinda romantic - I mean if you're into that sort of thing. And the girl - she was like all confused - didn't know what she wanted. One moment she was into him, next moment she was like nah bro - I ain't about that life. It was really annoying - like make up your mind girl! But I guess that's what made it real - like that's how love is sometimes - all over the place & messy.
The music was really good though - like it was the best part of the movie. The songs were so catchy - I've been humming them since I finished watching. I'm prolly gonna download the soundtrack tomorrow - its really that good. The performances were solid too - like the actors really brought their A-game. The guy playing the obsessed lover was so convincing - like you could feel his pain, his obsession, his love - it was all very visceral. And the girl - she was just as good. Her confusion, her dilemma, her feelings - it all felt very real.
But there were parts that annoyed me - like the ending was so cliched. I mean after all that drama, they just end up together like nothing happened - like all the obsession, the heartbreak, the conflict - it all just vanished. It was so unrealistic - I mean who does that? And then there was this subplot about the guy's past that was never fully explored - like it was introduced & then forgotten. It was like they were trying to add depth to his character but then got lazy & decided to just drop it. It was so frustrating - like why introduce something if you're not gonna follow through with it, right?
But overall, I kinda liked it - I mean it was different from the usual love stories. It was dark, it was intense, it was emotional - it was like a rollercoaster of emotions. It was good, like really good - I mean it was solid. I defiinitely recommend it - you should watch it. But be prepared for the emotional rollercoaster - it's gonna hit you hard. And don't forget to listen to the songs - they're really good.
Oh btw, this reminded me of when I watched Devdas in theater - the same intense love, the same heartbreak, the same obsession. And the theater was freezing - I had to wear my jacket the entire time. But it was worth it - Devdas is a classic. Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is like Devdas for the modern era - it's a classic in its own right.
So yeah, that's my review of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. It's not perfect, it has its flaws, but it's worth a watch. And the music is amazing - did I mention that? I probably did - but it's worth repeating. Watch it for the music if nothing else - you won't regret it.
