Song Sung Blue Review: An Unforgettable Symphony of Emotion

Original Title: Song Sung Blue

MOVIE

okay okay so I was supposed to be asleep but I ended up staying up & watching 'Song Sung Blue' - ngl, I was kinda iffy about it at first cus my sister recommended it & honestly her taste in movies is usually wierd - but dude, this movie was something else. I mean, like honestly. So the plot is about these two musicians, right? They're like super down on their luck & all but then they form this Neil Diamond tribute band & it's just - wow. I mean, damn it was solid. Like really solid.

I lowkey didn't expect to love it as much as I did, but it was like - kinda heartwarming & heartbreaking at the same time, you know? There were parts of it that made me wanna cry, fr. But then there were other parts that had me smiling like an idiot - even though the story was kinda sad overall, I couldn't help but feel for these characters & their journey. It was like if The Office & Inception had a baby & that baby watched too much TikTok - literally that's what it felt like. I mean, it's a bit of a stretch but that's the only comparison I can think of rn, lol.

anyway, I watched this after work yesterday & I was kinda tired but I couldn't stop watching. It was like, I was drawn to it & even though I was tired, I just couldn't look away. I was just so invested in their story. & then there was the music - oh the music. It was just so good, like really good. I mean, the songs were all Neil Diamond covers but they were done so well that I didn't even care. I was literally humming along to them - like I was deadass singing to myself at 1am, lmao.

but I gotta admit, there were parts of it that annoyed me. Like, I get that they were going for realism & all but some scenes just seemed unnecessary. Like the arguments between the couple - they were just too much. I mean, I get that they were trying to show the ups & downs of their relationship, but it just seemed a bit overdone. But overall, yeah I loved it. Even my roommate, who usually hates movies like this, thought it was good. & that's saying something.

oh btw, this movie reminded me of when I watched 'Once' back in college. It had the same sort of vibe - like a musical but not really a musical, you know? It's like, the music is a seperate part of the story but it's also a huge part of it - it's like a character in itself. & just like 'Once', 'Song Sung Blue' had me feeling all sorts of emotions by the end. I was happy, sad, excited, confused - all at the same time. But it was good tho. Really good.

anyway, I'm gonna go to bed now. I'm tired af & I have work in the morning. But I just had to tell you about this movie. If you haven't watched it yet, you should. It's like a hidden gem & I'm glad I stumbled upon it. It's not perfect, but it's real & raw & that's what makes it great. So yeah, that's my review. It's a bit long & messy but that's how I feel about this movie - it's long & messy but it's also unforgettable. Like a symphony of emotion, you know? fr fr.
