Original Title: Sholay: The Final Cut
MOVIE
so here's the thing - was supposed to be asleep but then my roommate wanna watch this classic Bollywood flick - Sholay: The Final Cut - & im like why not right? so we popped it on & man - it's like if Mad Max & The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly had a baby - & that baby grew up watching too much Bollywood cinema - ngl, it was lit af.
The plot is simple but classic - family gets murdered, revenge ensues - I mean it's as old as time itself right? but somehow - they make it work. The characters Jai & Veeru are hella iconic - like they're just these low-level outlaws but they got this charm about them - I mean they're basically just trying to survive but they're thrown into this wild revenge scheme - tbh, it's kinda wierd how much I found myself rooting for them.
& then theres Gabbar Singh - jeez this dude is a piece of work. like he's definately the bad guy - but he's got this weird charisma that just makes you wanna watch him - kinda reminds me of my ex tho lol. but fr, his character is so well done - I mean he's a total bastard but you can't help but be fascinated by him - he's like the perfect villain. plus, the actor playing him (Amjad Khan) is just brilliant - like he brings so much depth to Gabbar - I mean it's honestly impressive.
The film itself is a visual feast - like it's been remastered in 4K & it's just stunning to look at - I mean it's like watching a painting come to life. & the original 70mm aspect ratio just adds to the whole cinematic experience - honestly, it's like watching a whole different movie. plus, they've included the original ending & deleted scenes - which is honestly a game-changer - I mean it's like watching a whole new movie - like it's the same but different - you know?
but then there's the pacing - it's so slow at times - I mean it's a 3 hour movie & sometimes it feels like it. but then the action scenes hit - & it's like a total adrenaline rush - I mean it's just non-stop action - & it's so well done - like you can tell they put a lot of effort into it. but then it slows down again & it's like a rollercoaster - I mean it's kind of exhausting but in a good way - you know?
anyway, it's late & I've been rambling - but honestly, Sholay: The Final Cut is a masterpiece - it's like a love letter to classic cinema - & it's just a joy to watch. I mean sure, it's long & the pacing is off at times - but it's worth it - I mean it's a classic for a reason right? & tbh, it's prolly one of the best films I've seen in a while - & that's saying something. so yeah - definately check it out - it's a ride & a half - & you won't regret it. fr fr.
